Wool is at the heart of our business of including our blankets throws and hand dyed yarn. Wool is well known for its natural, renewable and biodegradable qualities and is, of course, plastic free! FelinFach has been an official supporter of the worldwide Campaign for Wool for many years and is listed on the Campaign's official supporter's web page. Choosing wool is kinder to our planet, potentially reducing the volume of man-made, plastic-based fibres going into landfill and the ocean.
Our hand dyed yarn is dyed in small batches by the owner of this website from Welsh and UK yarn together with some specialty fibres. Each batch is hand dyed in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK using ethically-sourced natural dye extracts.
FelinFach has been an official supporter of the worldwide Campaign for Wool for many years and is listed on the Campaign's official supporter's web page. FelinFach is committed to the responsible sourcing of British wool and always looking for environmentally friendly yarn. Sheep wool is a fantastic resource for all wool clothing. Because of the properties of wool, it can be used in other ways, such as sheep wool insulation for buildings, duvets and bed covers.
Launched in January 2010, the Campaign for Wool brings together leading figures from the fashion industry, interior design, wool carpet manufacturers as well as the world of insulation and building.
Since its launch in 2010, The Campaign for Wool has influenced a new demand for wool on an international scale. Its efforts have seen an outstanding threefold increase in the price farmers receive for their wool.
Each year the Campaign for wool organises a Wool Week in various parts of the world including the UK. In the UK, Wool Week is held in the month of October
NATURAL
Wool is a protein fibre formed in the skin of sheep, and is thus one hundred percent natural, not man-made.
RENEWABLE
As long as there is grass to graze on, every year sheep will produce a new fleece; making wool a renewable fibre source.
BIODEGRADABLE
At the end of its useful life, wool can be returned to the soil, where it decomposes.
NATURAL INSULATOR
Wool is a hygroscopic fibre. As the humidity of the surrounding air rises and falls, the fibre absorbs and releases water vapour.
BREATHABLE
Wool fibres are crimped, and when tightly packed together, form millions of tiny pockets of air. This unique structure allows it to absorb and release moisture without compromising its thermal efficiency.
RESILIENT & ELASTIC
Wool fibres resist tearing and are able to be bent back on themselves over 20,000 times without breaking.
MULTI-CLIMATIC/ TRANS-SEASONAL
Thanks to its hygroscopic abilities, wool constantly reacts to changes in body temperature, maintaining its wearer’s thermophysical comfort in both cold and warm weather.
EASY CARE
The protective waxy coating on wool fibres makes wool products resistant to staining and they also pick up less dust as wool is naturally anti-static. Recent innovations mean wool items are no longer hand-wash only. Many wool products can now be machine-washed and tumble dried
ODOUR RESISTANT
Wool is far more efficient than other textiles at absorbing sweat and releasing it into the air, before bacteria has a chance to develop and produce unpleasant body odour.
Located in Pembrokeshire Wales, our ethos is defined in the three words...
NATURAL TRADITIONAL HANDMADE.
