At the mouth of the river Teifi Estuary, Poppit Sands is a very large sandy beach backed by dunes in north Pembrokeshire. Stretching for miles along the Cardigan Bay, Poppit Sands is renowned for its golden sands, turquoise waters, and a backdrop of rolling dunes and lush greenery. At high tide, there is plenty of beach but it’s a low tide the beach expands massively. One note of caution, on the Gwbert side of the beach is the river Teifi estuary which has strong currents and is to be avoided.
During the summer season the beach has lifeguards (10.00am to 6.00pm in 2023). There are toilets and a good cafe for food and drinks. Located just over 3 miles from Cardigan town, (Poppit Sands Post Code for sat nav - SA43 3LR) it is easily accessible by car and has large, well-maintained car parks. It is also at the very north end of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
