Our Treftadaeth Collection is a celebration of Welsh heritage, in remembrance of an event or maybe a person that shaped the Country we have become. It also celebrates the Welsh woollen industry and weaving history.
This Collection will include Welsh woollen blankets and throws that are woven using fleece sourced within Wales. FelinFach buys the whole clip from the smallholding and the process from this fleece to our blanket or throw is completed in Wales - each blanket or throw will have a provenance proving it is a genuine Welsh product from ‘fleece to throw’. Each product will be individually numbered together with its ‘vintage’, the year the sheep were clipped. The blankets will be in the natural colour of the fibre and on occasion we may add a small amount of colour to the design.
Our first throw was called Patagonia (Gwladfa) to commemorate the emigration of many Welsh communities to Patagonia in the nineteenth century. Subsequent throws are named Tryweryn and Cilmeri. Tryweryn is in remembrance of the flooding of a valley near Bala to supply water to Liverpool and Cilmeri to commemorate Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (1223-1282) - the last prince of an independent Wales.
Our Beca blanket commemorates the Rebecca Riots of 1839 to 1843 when local farmers and workers in West Wales protested against taxes imposed at toll gates. The rioters were known as Merched Beca (Becas Daughters) who were in fact men dressed up as women!
