Hand Dyed Yarn - Natural Yarn Dyes
We love wool, we love yarn and we specialise in making hand dyed yarn. This yarn is dyed in small batches from Welsh and UK yarn together with some specialty fibres. All yarn is hand dyed with natural dyes in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK - we do not 'buy in' any dyed yarn for resale.
Using natural dyes is matter of personal preference and not a 'right or wrong' or 'good or bad' issue. Our choice is to dye all our yarn and other fibres only with natural dyes. Our hand dyed yarn is an eco-friendly product that sits well with our Mission of NATURAL TRADITIONAL HANDMADE.
- Hand dyeing our yarn is a process where the dye is applied to yarn by hand in small batches.
- All dyes used in dyeing our yarn are natural dyes - there are no exceptions to this!
- Hand dyeing is a slower more labour-intensive process compared to machine dyeing. This does allow a much higher degree of customisation and individual preference.

Without any exceptions whatsoever, all of our hand dyed yarn is dyed by hand, it is dyed by us and dyed only with natural dyes. Our website owner has been dyeing yarn with natural dyes for over 15 years and has attended 'in-person' courses in north America and in Europe and also many on-line courses.
She is also an experienced Tutor for 'in-person' courses and workshops for hand dyeing yarn for both protein and cellulose fibres.
Hand Dyed Yarn - Natural Dyeing Process
The colours from naturally dyed yarn are enthralling. Hand dyed yarns may be repeated but they can never be exactly the same. The natural dyeing process will depend on where the dyestuff was grown, how and when it was harvested, the fibres being dyed, and the method of application we use. Welsh fleece - This yarn has been washed, carded, spun and plied at a third generation family owned Welsh mill. It is then hand dyed at our studio using natural plant extracts. It is 100% Welsh wool - from fleece to finished yarn, or farm to yarn, a Welsh product.
4 Ply and Sock Yarn
All of the yarn for sale in this collection is British wool spun in Yorkshire and hand dyed in small batches by FelinFach using ethically sourced natural dye.
A choice of different sheep breeds each bringing their unique characteristics to the yarn. Strong, vivid, saturated colours as well as softer tones and variegated. Suitable for knitting, crochet, weaving, wall hangings ....
